Important Recycling Changes for Maple Ridge Residents – January 1, 2025

Why is the recycling schedule changing from five days to four? (Curbside only)
Shifting to a four-day collection schedule offers multiple service improvements. Most importantly, it helps minimize disruptions caused by statutory holidays—especially Mondays, which commonly impact collection. With a Monday to Thursday schedule, collection days can simply shift forward by one day when a stat holiday occurs, ensuring every household still receives service that week.
In addition, a four-day schedule allows for improved vehicle maintenance. Dedicated time for upkeep helps prevent equipment breakdowns and keeps service running smoothly year-round.
Will my collection day change? (Curbside only)
Yes, many residents will see a change. Approximately two-thirds of households in Maple Ridge will have a new collection day. Areas that previously had Friday service may be moved earlier in the week.
What happens if a statutory holiday falls on a Monday to Thursday? (Curbside only)
When a stat holiday falls on a scheduled collection day, all collection days for that week will shift forward by one day. For example, if Monday is a holiday, Monday’s route will be picked up Tuesday, Tuesday’s route on Wednesday, and so on—ensuring no one misses service.
What are the benefits of the new schedule? (Curbside only)
This change aligns with new equipment investments from our contractor, Remple Disposal. Their newly acquired trucks can carry larger volumes of recyclable material, reducing the number of trips needed and lowering fuel use. With fewer trips to empty trucks at recycling facilities, routes are more efficient and environmentally friendly.
My recycling collection was missed. How do I report it and when will it be picked up?
Here are a few tips to avoid missing a pickup:
- Know your schedule! Use Recycle BC’s app and sign up for collection day reminders.
- Flexible plastics are collected biweekly. Ensure you have the correct week. Collection on the “off-week” will not be accommodated.
- Please ensure your materials are placed to the curb by 7a.m. on your designated collection day. Late setout will not be accommodated.
- Please ensure you wait until the end of the day before reporting your missed pickup. Flexible plastics are collected on a separate route and not picked up at the same time with other recycling.
- Please ensure all materials are sorted according to the instructions. If you are unsure how to recycle specific material, use the waste wizard feature of the app or review the Material List.
- Received an oops sticker? Contact the collector for further information on sorting.

What changed on January 1, 2025?
Starting January 1, 2025, Recycle BC assumed responsibility for Maple Ridge’s residential curbside and multi-family recycling services.
Why is Ridge Meadows Recycling Society no longer responsible for curbside / multi-family recycling collection services in Maple Ridge?
The City of Maple Ridge’s contract with Recycle BC expired at the end of 2024, prompting a review of how recycling services are provided. After careful consideration of various factors, the decision was made to transition responsibility to Recycle BC for curbside and multi-family recycling collection services, representing the next step in the evolution of recycling for Maple Ridge.
Who is Recycle BC?
Recycle BC is a not-for-profit organization responsible for residential packaging and paper product recycling throughout British Columbia, servicing over two million households or over 99% of BC through curbside, multi-family and/or depot services. Recycle BC ensures packaging and paper products are collected from residential households and recycling depots, to be sorted and are responsibly managed and recycled.
Recycle BC provides recycling services either directly to communities or by working in partnership with local governments, First Nations, private companies, and other not-for-profit organizations. The Recycle BC program is funded by businesses like retailers, manufacturers, and restaurants that supply packaging and paper products to BC residents, shifting recycling costs away from homeowners.
Who will actually be picking up my recycling?
Recycle BC awarded its curbside collection contract in Maple Ridge to Remple Disposal for residential curbside recycling collection and Waste Control Services for multi-family buildings.
Are the same materials accepted?
While all existing recycling material is included, households will have to sort material slightly different:
- Flexible plastics (wrappers, plastic bags, etc.) go in the red/pink box or flexible plastics recycling cart.
- Hard plastic and metal containers, cartons, and paper cups go in the blue box or mixed container recycling cart.
- Paper, including cardboard and boxboard, goes in the yellow bag or mixed paper recycling cart.
- Glass bottles and jars go in the grey box or glass cart.
Recycle BC provided all curbside homes with stickers to place on your red/pink and blue boxes to help with the changes.

Who can I contact about my recycling service?
Changes to both Multi-Family and Curbside recycling came into effect on January 1, 2025.
Multi-Family recycling is collected by Waste Control Services (WCS).
If you have questions about your recycling collection or need additional information, please contact WCS at recyclebc@wastecontrolservices.com, or 778-503-1341.
Curbside recycling is collected by Remple Disposal.
If you have questions about your recycling collection or need additional information, please contact Remple Disposal at mapleridge@rempledisposal.com, or 778-503-1340.
Will I use the same boxes and bags as I do now?
Yes, you should continue to use the same boxes and bags as you have now, you’ll just sort the items slightly differently. Minor changes to sorting requirements have been made to align with Recycle BC’s province-wide system, improving recycling efficiency and reducing contamination, so we can ensure the collected material can be effectively recycled.
Will I still pay for recycling service?
Residential recycling collection service comes at no cost to residents. The Recycle BC program is funded by the businesses that supply packaging and paper to BC residents, shifting recycling costs away from taxpayers.
